The sitter chose to commission a portrait of himself to commemorate his retirement from a job that he both loved and hated. Due to his ill health, the painting was carried out partly from life and partly from a photograph. This painting was chosen for Th eRoyal Birmingham Society of Artists Summer Exhibition 2009.
